To Judge a Book By Its Cover – Conceptual Typography As A Tool Of Visual Communication In Book Cover Designs is a research-based publication studying how we interpret the visual language of typography.
The study investigates the cognitive and emotional responses evoked by typographic form, and how meaning can be embedded or even implied through design. Based on the findings from various research methods, the first outcome of the study addresses a research gap by proposing a tentative definition for conceptual typography. In the second phase, theory is turned into practice by designing a conceptual display typeface for a book cover title. This typographic solution is further used to test how effectively typography can communicate aspects of the book’s content without relying on additional imagery or text.
